North Carolina's governor sues lawmakers for a measure that eliminates his elections board authority

North Carolina's Democratic governor is suing Republican lawmakers over a new law that strips him of his authority to appoint state elections board members. Gov. Roy Cooper filed his lawsuit on Tuesday, the same day voter advocacy groups submitted what marks the third federal lawsuit against another measure that critics say would discourage young people from voting.

WS/FCS first graders celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a parade

For the last month, first grade students at Speas Global Elementary School have been studying Latin and Central American countries in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. On Thursday, they marched through the field outside of their school, waving flags, wearing customary clothing, and chanting the names of the places they’ve learned about. 

Guilford County Parks seeks public input for 10-year master plan

Guilford County Parks is embarking on a 14-month initiative to engage the community in shaping the future of its outdoor recreational offerings. The resulting 10-year master plan will be used to evaluate how best to improve the system which includes seven regional parks,  over 60 miles of trails and greenways, and more than 4,500 acres of open space.
