Forsyth County Board of Commissioners

The board now holds meetings at 2 p.m. – preventing many working people from participating. The new schedule will include a quarterly 6 p.m. meeting.

The majority of the candidates, predominantly consisting of Democrats, said they were against private school vouchers. The only candidate at the forum who disagreed was Michele Morrow, the Republican homeschooler running for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The largest spending increase for the county under the proposed budget is for schools, with a $6.7 million year-over-year bump.

Forsyth County is looking to sell the site of the former Kaleideum North facility. The 28-acre property was left vacant after the museum moved to its new location in downtown Winston-Salem earlier this year. 

Forsyth County health officials plan to set aside more funding from a state settlement with opioid manufacturers for medications used to treat substance use disorders.

Forsyth Works, an online workforce development hub aimed at connecting job seekers to roles in high-demand local industries, launched Friday. 

The race for the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is a crowded one this year, with a total of nine candidates vying for seats. 

The microtransit program aims in part to provide reliable transportation to county residents pursuing jobs outside of the county's urban centers.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is requesting an additional $27 million from the school capital project’s budget in order to fund the construction of a new Brunson Elementary. County commissioners will vote on the matter on Thursday.
