One of the Triad's largest hospital systems is now part of the larger, out-of-state system, Risant Health.

In the days after Helene, a Charlotte-based organization focused its efforts on distributing over-the-counter and prescription medications to those who lost theirs due to the floods.

Greensboro-based Cone Health recently opened the doors to it's new nearly 52,000 sq. ft. facility in Asheboro.

The state's new medical debt relief program has succeeded in getting all eligible hospitals on board. In exchange for relieving medical debt for millions of North Carolinians, the hospitals will receive increased Medicaid reimbursements.

Eligible plan-holders with Alliance Health, a managed care organization, will now have access to health and behavioral care through Cityblock, a health care provider with clinics in the Triad.

The deal with Risant is subject to regulatory approval. Neither party disclosed the financial terms of the agreement. 

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will promote their health care agenda on Tuesday in North Carolina, a battleground state that Democrats hope to flip in their favor after falling short to Donald Trump in the last two presidential elections.

An additional 33,000 Guilford County residents are expected to become eligible for the program. Officials say office appointments are not needed to apply.
